Poverty constricts Nasrin's dream

She qualifies for medical college admission

Defying odds, Nasrin Akter of Khetlal upazila in Joypurhat got chance for medical graduation course in Satkhira Medical College this year but she could not be admitted yet due to financial problem.

“It was my dream to be a doctor since my childhood,” said Nasrin, daughter of Lavlu Pramanik of Mamudpur village under Khetalal upazila.

The family earlier got displaced due to erosion by the Jamuna river in Sariakandi upazila of Bogra.

Further woe befell them after Lavlu Pramanik lost all the belongings to a gang of human traffickers, while attempting to go to Malaysia two years ago.

"Despite hardship, we helped our daughter to continue her study up to the intermediate level. She did brilliant results in the PSC, JSC, SSC and HSC. Now she has been selected for admission to a medical college but the money required for her admission could not be managed yet," said her mother Mirzan Begum.

"Now she requires at least 30,000 taka for completing the admission process. And of course, her tuition fees, the cost for accommodation and meals would remain a matter of concern until completion of her study," she said.

Cooperation from the affluent people can help Nasrin realise her dream to be a doctor, said Moshiur Rahman, chairman of Mamudpur union parishad in Khetlal upazila.
