Pope Francis to visit Bangladesh in November

Pope Francis of the Roman Catholic Church will visit Bangladesh in this November.

The pope is scheduled to arrive on a three-day visit on November 30 to December 2 this year, George Kocheri, Vatican ambassador to Bangladesh, told journalists during a press briefing at Kakrail cathedral in Dhaka today.

The pope will come here bearing the message of peace and harmony to the people, the ambassador said.

Meanwhile, at the invitation of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the pope is going to visit the country, says a Foreign Ministry press release.

During the visit, Pope Francis is expected to meet President Md Abdul Hamid, the premier and meet members of Christian community in Bangladesh, the press release added.

Pope Francis appointed Patrick D'Rozario, the archbishop of Bangladesh as the first ever cardinal from Bangladesh on 19 November 2016, the press release said.
