PM's support to 132 robbers for returning to normal life

One hundred and thirty-two forest robbers, who surrendered to law enforcing agencies last year, will get Tk one lakh each from the prime minister's relief fund.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal will distribute the money at Sheikh Helal Uddin Stadium in Bagerhat Sadar today, said Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, commanding officer (CO) of Rab-6.

According to Rab, 132 members of 12 robber groups including Master Bahini, Majnu Bahini and Ilias Bahini surrendered to the law enforcers last year to return to normal life.

Rafiqul said the government has been providing legal assistance to the people who have left robbery.

To rehabilitate them, the prime minister has decided to give Tk 1 lakh in cash each, he said, adding that the government will also provide jobs to their family members.

Lt Col Anwar-uz-Zaman, CO of Rab-8, said hundreds of people in coastal Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira, Barguna and Patuakhali are dependent on the Sundarbans and the sea for livelihood.

But, some misguided people are committing various crimes in the areas.
