6 Biman staff suspended over emergency landing of flight carrying PM

Six officials of engineering and technical department of Biman Bangladesh Airlines have been suspended due to their negligence to duty leading to the emergency landing of a flight carrying Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina on her way to Budapest.

The suspended officials are SM Rokonuzzaman, Samiul Haque, Lutfor Rahman, Milon Chandra Biswas, Zakir Hossain and Siddiqur Rahman, said in a statement issued by the Biman authorities this evening.

The VVIP flight with the premier made the emergency landing at Ashgabat International Airport in Turkmenistan on Sunday after a loose nut caused leakage of engine oil and pressure of engine No. 1 of the Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft down, the probe found.

After having the problem fixed, the aircraft “Ranga Pravhat” left Ashgabat Airport for Budapest.

The decision of the suspension was taken on the preliminary investigation report prepared by a probe body of the national flag carrier, the statement read.

Earlier in the day, Civil Aviation Minister Rashed Khan Menon said the Biman flight carrying premier made the emergency landing in due to “human failure factors”.

“The flight was compelled to make the emergency landing due to human failure factor,” Menon said at a press conference at his ministry office in the secretariat on the basis of the probe body report.
