Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said a very good road communication network is essential for the socio-economic development of a country and her government's focus is to accelerate the country's march forward.

"We have to take measures for ensuring all the basic needs of people as all our steps are taken to fulfill that purpose and road communication plays a very important role in developing the socio-economic development of a country," she said.

Prime Minister said this while inaugurating nine bridges in Madaripur, Sylhet, Patuakhali, Cox's Bazar, Sunamganj and Gaibandha districts through videoconferencing from her official residence, Ganobhaban.

"The more the road communication network gets solid footing the more the products of different areas of the country will pour into the market. The people of those areas will be benefitted greatly through marketing their products and produces," she said.

Saying that Bangladesh is a riverine country, Hasina mentioned that for establishing a good communication network, the government has to build bridges over the rivers, beels, canals and other water-bodies.

She also said if the road communication network gets improved, the education sector will also be benefitted. "With this, the scope for getting education will be increased apart from other benefits," she said.

The Prime Minister mentioned that the road communication will also help service holders. "If any area is connected through a proper communication network, than that particular area's economy will automatically grow faster," she added.

That is why, Hasina said, whenever the Awami League comes to power it always gives importance to improving the communication network, including roads, railways, waterways and airways.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader was, among others, present at the programme.
