Philanthropic job by a great heart

Sheikh Zannatul Taslima, a 4th year medical student, said financial help from a philanthropist in the district enabled her to continue her studies.

Taslima said Md Abdur Rashid, founder of ASPADA Paribesh Unnayon Foundation, has been supporting her with monthly allowance since 2011.

She said this at the annual gathering of the sponsored students and their guardians organised by the NGO yesterday.

Hanufa Khatun, mother of Habibur Rahman Habib, a 2nd year medical student, said her son has been helped by Rashid since Habib was a student of Class IX.

Like them, some 157 students now studying at different institutions are being financially supported by the NGO. The NGO also renders vocational training for free for helpless women and girls.

A discussion meeting was held on the occasion. Barrister Tania Amir of Bangladesh Supreme Court was the chief guest.

Highly praising the initiative taken by Rashid, the guests said it is the work of a great heart and such people have become rare in the society.
