The approach road to Nolujur bridge in Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj collapsed on December 6 in 2017 but has not been repaired as yet.

Only rickshaws and auto-rickshaws use the bridge in Ghosgaon on the Jagannathpur-Shibganj-Begumpur road at great risk.

People of Raniganj, Pailgaon and Asharkandi unions in the upazila use this road to communicate with Sadar upazila headquarters. Besides, this road also connects with Osmaninagar and Balaganj upazilas of Sylhet.

While visiting the spot recently, this correspondent saw some small vehicles crossing the bridge at great risk.

Ramjan Ali of Ghosgaon village said some sections of the bridge were eroded at the end of last year but the authorities concerned have not done any repair work, much to the suffering of the people.

Masum Ahmad of Kubajpur village, a regular passenger on the road, said small vehicles like auto-rickshaw and rickshaw are using this risky road, but cars cannot.

Jagannathpur Upazila Awami League General Secretary Rezaul Karim Riju Mia, a resident of Ghosgaon, said people of three unions go to the upazila headquarters crossing the Nolujur bridge, while residents of Sadar upazila can travel to Begumpur on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in less time. He urged the authorities concerned to ease the people's suffering by repairing the approach road.

Upazila Engineer Golam Sarwar said the repair work will start very soon.
