Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Jhalakathi freed today

On this day in 1971, heroic freedom fighters freed Patuakhali, Pirojpur and Jhalakathi districts from Pakistani occupation forces.

Our Patuakhali correspondent reported that, freedom fighters defeated Pakistani troops and entered Patuakhali town in the last week of November in 1971.

On December 8, freedom fighters finally declared the district free after the Pakistan army left the district town for Dhaka by a ship on the night of December 7.

Marking the day, district unit of Muktijoddha Sangsad have taken up a day long programme.

Our Pirojpur correspondent reports, On December 6, according to a plan, freedom fighters based in the Sundarbans attacked the Pakistani Army in Pirojpur town from three sides.

After a fierce battle, they entered Pirojpur town on December 8 and declared it free.

On December 8, about hundred freedom fighters took control of Jhalakathi town without any resistance after Pakistan army fled the area in fear the same morning, reports our Jhalakathi correspondent.
