Jubo Mohila League's suspended leader Shamima Nur Papia and her husband Mofizur Rahman Sumon have been placed on 15-day remand each in connection with three cases.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim placed the couple on a 10-day remand each in two cases filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station under the Special Power Act and the Arms Act.

Meanwhile, another court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Masud-Ur-Rahman granted a five-day remand prayer for them in another case filed with Bimanbandar Police Station under the Special Power Act.

Papia and Sumon were produced before the courts with a 30-day remand prayer each in the three cases.

Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Masud-Ur-Rahman placed two accomplices of Papia and Sumon -- Sabbir Khandaker and Sheikh Taiyaba Nur -- on a five-day remand each after police produced the duo with a 10-day remand prayer each in a case filed with Bimanbandar Police Station.

According to the police forwarding report, the accused confessed that they amassed a huge amount of money in an organised manner through illegal arms, drugs and smuggling trades, extortion, lobbying, fake note business and land grabbing.

Rab yesterday raided two flats belonging to Papia and Sumon after arresting them from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday.

Rab seized counterfeit notes, foreign currencies and around Tk 2.5 lakh from their possession.

Raiding the two flats on Indira Road in the city's Farmgate area and also a presidential suite at a five-star hotel, Rab recovered around Tk 58 lakh in cash.

Apart from the lavish flats in Dhaka, Papia and Sumon -- a former Chhatra League leader -- own two more flats and two plots worth around Tk 2 crore in Narsingdi and several luxurious cars, Rab said yesterday.

In addition to the fake notes and currencies, they had seven passports in their possession.

Rab handed over the four arrestees to Bimanbandar Police Station yesterday. The elite force also filed three cases with the two police stations.
