Students of Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST) today besieged the vice-chancellor’s residence demanding removal of the VC, proctor and student adviser bringing allegation of corruption and irregularities against them.

The authorities were holding a meeting inside the residence of Dr Rustom Ali till 2:00pm when the report was filed., reports out Pabna correspondent.

The students are demonstrating since Tuesday to press home their 12-point demand issued after the authorities issued show-cause notice to three teachers for “raising voice against corruption and irregularities by the authorities.”

But they are demonstrating demanding removal of the trio since Wednesday.

“The authority is reluctant to fulfill the logical demand of the students. In our 12-point demand, we have demanded the authorities to resolve longstanding problems of the students but they are reluctant,” said Maahmud Kamal Tuhin, vice president of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) PUST unit today.

On October 24, a conversation allegedly between the VC and job aspirant Monirul Islam went viral, where Monirul was heard asking back Tk 8 lakh from the VC as he did not pass the recruitment test.

Earlier, the vice chancellor of PUST told journalists that he did not take any bribe and this is nothing but a conspiracy.

Asked about the students’ protest, the VC said the university authorities will take necessary steps to fulfill the logical demands.
