‘Outlaw’ killed in Rajbari ‘gunfight’

An alleged member of an outlawed party was killed what police said in a gunfight in Sadar upazila of Rajbari district early today.

Abbas Sardar Khokon, 48, a member of outlawed Shorbohara party, died in the gunfight between law enforcers and his group in Baninagar Kheyaghat area under Mizanpur union around 3:30am, our Faridpur correspondent reports quoting police.

Khokon is the son of Nekon Sardar of Kamarkhali village of Sujanagar in Pabna, Tarique Kamal, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rajbari Sadar Police Station, told the correspondent.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided the Baninagar Kheyaghat area where Khokon along with several others were holding a meeting, the OC said.

Sensing presence of police, the outlawed party men fired gun shots at the law enforcers which triggered the gunfight, he added.

Policemen found critically wounded Khokon at the spot and rushed him to the Sadar hospital where doctors pronounced him dead around 4:30am, the police official said.

Police recovered one locally made (kata) rifle, two rounds of bullets, one shooter gun and three rounds of cartridges from the spot, the OC added.        

Khokon had six including two murder cases against him filed with different police stations, he said.
