Outlaw killed by rivals

An activist of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (ML) was killed in a gunfight with his rivals at Ranigati village in Abhoynagar upazila of Jessore district early yesterday.  The victim was identified as Bidyut Kumar Roy, 35, son of Sukumar Roy of the village. Sheikh Nasir Uddin, officer-in-charge of Abhoynagar Police Station, said they got information around 2:30am that a gun battle was taking place between two rival extremist groups over establishing supremacy at the village. A team of police rushed to the spot and found bullet-hit Bidyut on the spot. The members of both the groups managed to flee the scene. Bidyut died on way to Abhoynagar Hoispital at about 3:15am. Police recovered one pipegun and three bullets from the spot. Bidyut was wanted in nine cases filed with different police stations, the OC added.
