The Supreme Court has fixed Sunday for passing an order on a leave to appeal petition filed by journalist Shafik Rehman seeking bail in a sedition case.

The four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha fixed the date after concluding hearing on Rehman’s appeal.

He filed the leave to appeal petition with the apex court after the High Court on June 7 rejected his bail petition on the ground that the investigation into the sedition case was going on.

In the appeal, he prayed to the apex court to grant him bail in the case.

On June 29, the chamber judge of the Appellate Division sent the leave to appeal petition to the full bench for its hearing.

The case was filed against Shafik for his alleged attempts to abduct and murder Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy.

The former editor of the daily Jaijaidin was arrested on April 16 in the case at his residence by detectives.
