One killed as villagers clash

A man was killed and at least 10 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers over establishing supremacy in Muksudpur upazila of the district yesterday.

The deceased, Fayake Mia, 35, was son of late Raja Mia of Bahara village in the upazila.

The injured were admitted to Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex.

Police, however, detained four people in this connection, Office-in-Charge of Muksudpur Police Station Azizur Rahman said.

Quoting villagers, police said there had been a longstanding rivalry between Abu Tayeb Mia and Sarwar Mia of the village.

The clash took place following an altercation, when one of Sarwar's supporters slapped a supporter of Abu Tayeb after the Fazr prayers.

As a sequel, both the groups equipped with lethal weapons locked in an hour-long clash that left Fayake dead and 10 others from both sides injured.

Besides, four houses were vandalised and looted during the clash.
