One killed, 10 shot by robbers

One person was killed and ten others were injured when a gang of robbers fired on villagers indiscriminately in Kholabari cluster village under Fulchhari upazila yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Azher Ali, 45 of the village.

The injured are Abdul Aziz, 50, Halima Begum, 18, Abdur Rahim, 32, Rashidul, 38, Shafiqul Islam, 35, Eaqub Ali, 22, Azam, 30, Zilhaq, 25, Hashem Ali, 38, and Vikhu Mia, 40.

The gang also abducted Lal Mia and Sukur Ali from the village.

Quoting locals, police said the robbers led by Abdus Sattar opened fire on the villagers as a sequel to a past feud with one Lal Mia, an inhabitant of the village.

Due to indiscriminate gunfire, eleven people received bullet injuries. They were taken to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital from where they were shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition.Later, Azher Ali succumbed to his injuries.

Their injuries were critical, so they were referred to Rangpur Medical Collage Hospital for better treatment, said Dr Efat Ara Sharmin, on-duty physician of Gaibandha hospital.

Confirming the death of one person in the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Fulchhari Police Station AM Ashrafuzzaman said additional police have been deployed in the village to avoid further attack and raids are on to arrest the robbers and rescue the missing people.
