One held for torturing 3 school kids in Natore

Police arrested a local trader in Bagatipara upazila of the district yesterday on charge of  torturing three children.

The arrestee, Imaz Uddin, 45, is son of Kanu Mandol of Makupara village, and president of Makupara Bazar traders' committee.

Tayab Ali Khan, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Bagatipara Police Station, said Nazrul Islam, the nightguard of the bazar, saw three children sitting behind a shop at around midnight on Thursday and informed the bazar committee.

On Friday evening, the bazar committee tied up the boys and beat them up with bamboo sticks.

The victims are Rumon Hossain, 12, son of Ramjan Ali of Paka village and Class VII student of Paka High School; Mehedi Hasan, 13, son of Firoz Ali of Makupara village and Class VIII student of Ideal High School of Bagatipara, and Firoz Hossain, 8, son of Siddik Ali of Makupara village and Class III student of Makupara Government Primary School.

The bazar committee also fined Rumon Tk 5,000 Mehedi Tk 5,000, and Firoz Tk  2,000.

Firoz's father lodged a case yesterday, accusing five people including Imaz Uddin.
