One confesses crime

An accused in the councillor aspirant murder case in the district town made a confessional statement before a court under Section 164 on Tuesday.

The accused who made the confession is Shaon Mia, 22, son of Abdus Samad of Sultanganjpara in the town.

Judge Md Kamruzzaman of the Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court recorded the statement.

The killed was Hazrat Ali Mondal, 37, son of Abdus Sattar Mondal of Nishindhara Mondalpara in the town, and councillor aspirant of ward No 16 under the municipality.

Police, quoting from the statement, said the present councillor Jahurul Islam used to threaten Hazrat that he would kill him as he was a very strong rival in the ward. He also had a feud with Hazrat.

Hazrat was hacked to death by a gang of six to seven criminals in the municipality area on Sunday.
