6 shot as AL man’s gun goes off ‘accidentally’ in Faridpur

At least six people including an officer-in-charge were bullet injured as gun of a local Awami League leader went off “accidentally” during a rally of the ruling party's Presidium Member Kazi Zafarullah in Bhanga upazila of Faridpur this morning.

The incident took place when Kazi Zafarullah, presidium member of AL and also former lawmaker, along with his supporters brought out a rally and locked into a scuffle with the villagers around 8:30am, our correspondent reports quoting Jamil Hassan, superintendent of police in Faridpur.

During the scuffle, a shotgun belonging to Dipok Majumder, president of Bhanga upazila AL unit, went off “accidentally”, injuring six people including Najmul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Bhanga Police Station, said SP Jamil.  

The six bullet-wounded people were rushed to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex where they are now undergoing treatment.

The identities of the other five could not be known immediately.
