‘Quader to undergo bypass surgery next week’

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader will undergo a bypass surgery in Singapore next week, party sources said.

Speaking to The Daily Star today, a highly-placed party insider requested anonymity to say that the surgery will take place in four-five days.

The operation will be undertaken at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, where Quader was flown to yesterday after his condition stabilised.

Prof Dr Abu Naser Rizvi, a professor at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, in a video message said the surgery will be conducted “soon”.

“He has some kidney and infection problems. The surgery will be conducted after those are brought under brought under control,” he said.

The video was catered to the media by Md Abu Naser, deputy chief information officer at road transport ministry – an official of Quader’s ministry.

WHAT HAPPENED TO QUADER?

Earlier on Sunday, Quader was hospitalised following breathing problems post-Fazr hours. He was diagnosed with three blocks in the heart.

While undergoing treatment at the hospital, Quader underwent another heart attack.

Doctors initially said he will be under observation for 24-72 hours.

According to them, Quader was suffering from uncontrolled diabetes and blood pressure. Also, the road transport minister has electrolyte imbalance.

International specialised doctors from India and Singapore flew in to check on Quader. They lauded the healthcare given to him in Bangladesh.

Yesterday, Quader was flown to Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital.
