Nur Hossain repatriated

Indian government handed over Nur Hossain, the prime accused in the sensational Narayanganj seven-murder case, to its Bangladesh counterpart on Thursday night.

“He (Hossain) was repatriated around 11:45pm through Benapole border,” Apurbo Hasan, officer-in-charge (OC) of Benapole Port Police Station, told our Benapole correspondent.

"Nur Hosssain is now being taken to Narayanganj by members of Detective Branch of Police," the OC added.

Police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members put an extra alert at the border area.

In line with instruction from high officials, a team of police from Narayanganj has set off for Benapole this Thursday evening to bring back Nur Hossain for trial, said Khandakar Mohid Uddin, superintendent of police (SP) in Narayanganj.

Hossain, who fled to India after the murder, was arrested in Kolkata on June 14 last year.  He was found staying in India without valid documents.

He was charged in the court on twin counts of illegal entry and trespassing into India.

Seven people including Nazrul and senior lawyer Chandan Sarker were abducted from Narayanganj in April last year. Later, their bodies were found floating in the river Shitalakkhya of the district.

Nazrul's father-in-law Shahidul Islam alleged that Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) personnel abducted and killed Nazrul in exchange for Tk 6 crore from a local ward councillor Nur Hossain.

The three former Rab officials, which included the in-law of a minister, confessed to their involvement to the killing.
