NSI director co-opted to probe PM’s flight glitch

National Security Intelligence (NSI) Director Brig Gen Ziaul Ahsan has been co-opted to investigate the cause behind the technical glitch in the Biman special flight that carried Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to Hungary on November 27.

The committee was formed on November 28 by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism to investigate the technical glitch.

With the inclusion of the NSI director, the committee, headed by the additional secretary of the ministry Swapan Kumar Sarkar, now has five members, according to a press release issued by the ministry today.

The deadline for submitting the probe report has also been extended to seven working days, said public relation officer of the ministry Mahbubur Rahman Tuhin.

The primary probe by Biman already found that the VVIP flight carrying the premier made the emergency landing at Ashgabat International Airport in Turkmenistan after a loose-nut had caused leakage of engine oil lowering the pressure of engine No 1 of the Boeing 777-300 ER aircraft.

Biman has already suspended six officials of engineering and technical department due to their negligence to duty.
