Faridpur Engineering College has been running without appointment of permanent teachers and staff since the opening of academic activities four years ago, much to the worry of students.

Established in 2010, the college started its academic activities in 2012. The teachers as well as most of the employees are serving on temporary basis, college sources said,

“The institution is being run by guest and temporary teachers since the beginning,” Rijvi Ahmed, a second year student of civil engineering department of the college, said.

Teachers of Faridpur Polytechnic Institute and Government Rajendra College are taking classes since the opening of academic activities, he said.

The college was expected to run three departments -- electrical and electronic engineering, civil engineering, and computer and communication, said some students.

Though the first two departments were opened, the computer and communication department is yet to be started due to lack of teachers and employees, they said.

Due to the situation, many valuable equipment of computer and communication department have been lying idle for years, said Md Sagor Ahmed, a student of electrical and electronic engineering department.

Arifa Sumaiya Nisho, another student of the same department, said, “We do not get proper education for not having any qualified teachers in the college.”

There are 480 students, including 90 female students, in two departments, said the sources.

The college has a building for bank, post office and a cafeteria but they are yet to be opened. Tthere is a library but it remains open only for two hours a day, said the students.

Principal (in-charge) Md Anwar Hossain, also the principal of Faridpur Polytechnic Institute, said, “Permanent teachers will be appointed very soon in the college.”

On opening the computer and communication department, he said it could not be run as necessary teachers are yet to be appointed.
