Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today asked authorities concerned not to ply truck, lorry and covered-van on the highways across the country for three days before the Eid-ul-Fitr.

However, Quader, also general secretary of the ruling Awami League, said that the vehicles carrying medicine, perishable and garment items will remain out of the purview of the order.

Quader was talking to reporters at a programme in Kaliakoir area of Gazipur. He held a meeting with deputy commissioner of the district and police officials to take necessary measures to ease the journey of the homebound people on the occasion of the Eid.

The concerned engineers have been asked to finish all repairing works on the highway by June 8, Quader said.

Talking about the recently held Khulna City Corporation election, Quader asked BNP to take preparation for participating in the next general election.

"We have nothing to do if BNP does not participate in the next general election like that of the January 5, 2014," Quader said adding that the next general election will be held in due time.
