N’ganj raid: Villagers unwilling to bury militant Rabbi

Villagers of Beroil in Magura Sadar upazila are not willing to bury the body of militant Kazi Fazle Rabbi, who was killed in joint forces’ drive in Narayanganj, in his native home.

“Those involved in militancy are not only enemies of Islam but also of the nation and its people. We do not want any such militant to be buried in the soil of Beroil, said Khandaker Mohabbat Ali, chairman of Beroil UP.

Ali, a local Awami League leader, also vowed to resist the burial from taking place in Beroil, the native home of Rabbi.

Rabbi was killed along with Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury, mastermind of the militant attacks at a Gulshan café and Sholakia Eid congregation, at their hideout in Paikpara of Narayanganj on August 27.

Police identified him as the son of Kazi Habibullah, a former principal of a college in Jessore, who hailed from Beroil village in Magura.

After disclosure of his identity, news spread last night that Rabbi might be buried at his ancestral home in Beroil. Hearing the news, the villagers expressed anger and announced that they will not let the militant to be buried there, our local correspondent reports.
