Youth lands in jail for raping minor girl in Gaibandha

A Gaibandha court yesterday sent a young man to jail in connection with a case for raping a 10-year-old girl in Gaibandha's Sadullapur upazila in December last year.

The accused, Mizanur Rahman, 23, is a resident of Shrirampur village in the upazila.

Police raided the village and detained Mizanur on Saturday night after victim's father filed a rape case with Sadullapur Police Station against him the same night.

According to the case statement, neighbour Mizanur entered the victim's house on December 17 afternoon, and raped her forcible when none of her family members were present at the house.

He also threatened the victim, a Class V student at a local school, not to disclose the matter to others.

The traumatised girl told her parents about the incident only a few days ago, Officer in Charge of Sadullapur Police Station Masud Rana said, adding that they produced Mizanur befor a court yesterday noon that sent him to jail.

The victim was sent to Gaibandha Sadar Hospital for medical test yesterday, he added.
