Youth held for killing brother's wife

Police on Monday detained a youth in connection with a case for killing his elder brother's wife allegedly for dowry in Madhupur upazila of Habiganj on December 13.

The arrestee Murshid Mia, 25, is son of Bazlu Mia of Khoroki village in the upazila.

In primary interrogation, Murshid confessed his involvement in the murder, Officer in Charge (Investigation) of Madhabpur Police Station KM Amiruzzaman said.

Earlier, police recovered the body of Marjia Begum, 30, wife of Masud Mia of the village, from her house on December 13 and sent it to the hospital for autopsy, Sub Inspector (SI) Abdus Sattar of the police station said.

Later, a murder case was lodged with the police station accusing five people, the SI said.

Deceased's younger brother Mohammad Obaidullah said Masud and Murshid used to torture his sister for dowry since their marriage about a year ago.

Recently Masud demanded Tk 1 lakh from his sister, Obaidullah said, adding that as Marjia refused to give him the money he along with his younger brother Murshid killed her.
