Youth beaten to death in Chattogram

A youth was beaten to death allegedly by his friends in Kattoli area of Chattogram city early today following an altercation over a trivial matter.

The deceased was identified as Md Mobarak Hossain, 20, son of Mosharraf Hossain of Dakkhin Kattoli area of the port city, reports our Chattogram correspondent quoting police.

Mainur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Pahartali Police Station, said police arrested two friends of the victim -- Md Rubel and Md Hridoy -- in this connection.

The incident took place around 12:30am near CDA cattle market in the area, the OC said, adding that the gang of youths is involved in different local crimes.

Quoting locals, the OC said that Mobarak, Hridoy, Rubel and several others were gossiping near the CDA cattle market where Mobarak slapped Rubel at one point after an altercation ensued between them over mugging.

“After being hit, Rubel left the spot and came back few minutes later along with several others and started beating Mobarak. At one-point, Rubel hit Mobarak’s head with a bamboo stick, leaving him critically injured,” OC Mainur Rahman said.

He was whisked off to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where the doctors declared him dead, he also said.

Police later arrested Rubel and Hridoy from near the spot in this connection. 

The body was sent to CMCH morgue for autopsy while a case was lodged in this regard, the OC added.
