Husband, sister held
A housewife was killed by her husband allegedly over her husband's extra-marital affair with her younger sister in Chandpur's Hajiganj upazila.
The deceased was Nasrin Akter Riba, wife of Hazrat Ali, said Chandpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Zihadul Kabir while briefing the journalists in this regard yesterday noon.
Police detained Hazrat and his sister-in-law Irene Akter Rekha for their alleged involvement in the murder.
Expatriate Hazrat married Riba, daughter of Abdur Rahim of Purba Hatila village in the upazila in March this year.
After the marriage, Hazrat developed an extra-marital affair with Riba's younger sister Rekha.
After Riba came to know about their illicit relationship recently, Hazrat and Rekha decided to kill her.
According to the plan, Hazrat Ali returned to the country and went to his father-in-law's house on October 9, and killed his wife with the help of her younger sister.
They later spread the news that Riba died of cardiac arrest in a bid to pass the incident as normal death, the SP said.
Meanwhile, following a case filed by the victim's father Abdur Rahim with Hajiganj Police Station police detained Hazrat on Tuesday for quizzing on October 14.
Later, following the information gleaned from Hazral, police arrested Riba's younger sister Rekha yesterday.
Police said Hazrat gave his confessional statement before a Chandpur court regarding his involvement in Riba's killing.
