Woman killed for dowry

A woman was killed allegedly by her husband for dowry at Haria Deara village in Jhikorgachha upazila of Jashore on Saturday night.

The deceased was Hira Khatun, 20, daughter of Mominur Rahman of Sharif Rajpur village in Chowgachha upazila.

The victim's father said Golam Rasul, 30, son of Abdus Samad of Haria Deara village, often tortured his daughter for dowry after three years of their marriage.

Six months ago, Mominur gave his son-in-law Tk 30,000 for business purpose. On Saturday night, Golam Rasul again asked Hira to bring Tk 50,000 from her father.

During an altercation over the issue, Golam Rasul strangled Hira.

The reason behind the death will be known after getting the autopsy report, said Tobarak Ali, sub-inspector of Jhikorgachha Police Station.
