Woman dies from ‘wrong treatment’

A young woman died allegedly due to “wrong treatment” at Thakurgaon General Hospital in the town on Monday.

The victim was Parul Begum, 22, wife of Razib Hossain of Jagannathpur village in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila.

Razib said Parul was admitted to the hospital with labour pain on Monday morning. Dr Zahangir Alam conducted a caesarean operation and she gave birth to a baby boy.

After few hours his wife complained severe pain in her abdomen, said Razib, adding that he informed the staff of the hospital about the matter.

Despite repeated calls, the doctor did not attend her. Finally she died around 10:00pm, he said.

“My wife died of excessive bleeding due to wrong operation,” Razib said.

Hearing the news of the death, the patient’s relatives vandalised the hospital’s windowpanes and furniture.

Civil Surgeon Dr Abu Mohammad Khairul Kabir said a three-member probe body has been formed to investigate into the matter.

They have already written to the authorities concerned for stopping operation of Dr Zahangir’s clinic at Gorea village in Sadar upazila.

Officer in Charge of Thakurgaon Police Station Ashikur Rahman said on information, police rushed to the hospital and brought the situation under control.
