Woman dies after being hit by bus in Munshiganj

A woman was killed and a man was injured after being hit by a passenger bus when its driver lost control in Munshiganj's Gazaria upazila yesterday evening.

The incident took place at Jamaldi bus stand area on Dhaka-Chattogram Highway around 7:00pm when the Cumilla-bound bus collided with the divider after its driver lost control, ramming into the woman, aged around 50 years, and leaving her dead on the spot, reports our Munshiganj correspondent quoting Rifat Mallik, station officer at Fire Service and Civil Defence station in Gazaria.  

A man was also injured in the incident, Mallik said.  

On information, a team of rescuers from the fire service station went to the spot, recovered the body of the deceased, and took the injured person to the upazila health complex for treatment, he said.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. The injured man has been identified as Khalilur Rahman (45).

The body of the deceased is in custody of highway police. Police also seized the bus but its driver and his helper managed to flee from the scene.
