A fugitive death row convict in a war crimes case died of old age ailments in Fenchuganj upazila of Sylhet district today.

Anis Miah, 85, breathed his last at his relative’s house, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports quoting Pachgaon Union Parishad Chairman Shamsun Nur Ahmed.

His body was brought to his village home at Pashchimbhagh in Rajnagar upazila in Moulvibazar where he will be buried, the chairman said.

The International Crimes Tribunal gave him the death sentence this year for committing genocide during the Liberation War in 1971, said Pachgaon Union Parishad Chairman Shamsun Nur Ahmed.

Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge of Rajnagar Police Station Shyamol Boni said they also heard of Anis Miah’s death and were on their way to the village.
