Urea production resumes

Urea production at Jamuna Fertilizer Company Ltd (JFCL) in Sarishabari upazila started yesterday after the factory remained shut for over five months.

Fertilizer production came to a halt on April 5 as the higher authorities concerned withdrew the gas supply to JFCL for providing it (gas) to gas-fueled power plants to generate power, said Mahbuba Sultana, managing director of JFCL.

As the gas supply to the factory got restarted on September 10, JFCL has been able to resume urea production with gas pressure of 20 kilogrammes per square centimetre around 12:00 noon.

But the factory needs to have gas pressure of 22kg/sq. cm to produce its desirable production of 1200-1300 tonnes of urea per day to achieve its production target of 3.20 lakh tonnes in the current fiscal year, said the managing director.

Urea from JFCL is supplied to a totalof 19 districts including 16 northern ones, she added.
