Upazila chairman in Narsingdi removed for misappropriating subordinates’ allowances

An upazila chairman was removed from his position after he was found guilty of misappropriating allowances of two of his subordinates in Narsingdi.

Shamsher Zaman Bhuiyan, chairman of Belabo upazila, was relieved of his duties following a letter signed by Md Shamsul Haque, deputy secretary of Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, following the directives of the President, reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent.

Meanwhile, Upazila Parishad Panel Chairman Md Moniruzzaman Bhuiyan Jahangir has been handed over the authority to run operations of the parishad.

On January 18, the Local Government Division issued a show-cause notice against Shamsher asking him to explain within 10 days why he should not be removed from his position.

Sharmin Aktar, vice-chairperson of Belabo upazila, along with Md Moniruzzaman Bhuiyan Jahangir submitted a written application to the district administrator seeking legal solution for the misappropriation of subordinates' allowances by Shamsher Zaman Bhuiyan.

According to the application, Shamsher Zaman illegally withdrew the two vice-chairmen's monthly and other allowances for November 2019 from the bank.
