UGC to review software developed for public university entry tests

The University Grants Commission with the help of independent experts will review a software developed to conduct admission tests online for enrolling first year honours students at public universities under 2020-21 academic session.

Prof Munaz Ahmed Noor, vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University developed the software. With the software, universities will be able to hold their internal exams including admission tests online with transparency, he said.

UGC Member Muhammed Alamgir said that many public university VCs have expressed hope that they will be able to conduct online admission tests using this software.

The UGC in a meeting held this afternoon has decided to urge Prof Munaz to prepare a presentation on his software so that independent experts can give their opinion, Alamgir said.

He said the presentation is likely to be held on November 3.

In response of Bangladesh Bishwabidyalaya Parishad, an association of public universities vice-chancellors, the UGC is going to organise a meeting with VCs of public universities and Ministry of Education to discuss the entry test at public universities likely to be held in the second week of November.

This year, confusion about the admission tests emerged after the government decided to award grades to candidates of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams without holding public exams amid the coronavirus pandemic.
