Two stabbed dead in Jashore, Habiganj

A college boy and a youth have been murdered in Jashore and Habiganj.

Pappu, 21, son of Zillur Rahman of Khalda road in Jashore town, was stabbed to death by criminals yesterday, reports our Benapole correspondent,

The deceased ran a mobile shop in Barobazar area of the town, said his father Zillur.

A gang stabbed the victim's brother Dipu, 24, in front of the shop over previous enmity. Pappu also came under attack when he came to save his brother.

Pappu later died at Jashore Medical College Hospital, said Officer in Charge (OC) Apurba Hasan of Jashore Kotwali Police Station.

Critically injured Dipu was rushed to the hospital and then referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition worsened.

Police are raiding different areas to arrest the killers, said the OC.

Meanwhile, a college student was killed and nine others were injured in a clash between two rival groups over a disputed land at Jamalpur village in Habiganj's Baniachong upazila, reports our Moulvibazar correspondent.

The victim was Sayem Mia, 22, son of Romij Mia of the village, and a student of Class XI at Jonab Ali Degree College.

Of the injured, three were admitted to Habiganj Sadar Adhunik Hospital while the rest given first aid.

Locals said there was a longstanding conflict between Sayem and his neighbour Nazrul Islam over the land.

As a sequel to the conflict, the men of the rivals attacked each other with knives and iron rods on Wednesday, leaving at least 10 people from both sides injured.

Sayem succumbed to his injuries at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital yesterday morning, said OC Rashed Mubarak of Baniachong Police Station.
