Two 'robbers' arrested

Police arrested two alleged members of a robber gang from Hobibpur village in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj early Sunday.

The arrestees are Haidur Rahman, 32, son of Janu Mia in Hobibpur village, and Rubel Mia, 22, son of Tajul Islam in Madhabpur, police said.

The gang, comprising 15 to 18 people, tried to commit robbery at a house in Hobibpur field area when the residents started screaming.

Villagers rushed to the spot and caught the two robbers while the other robbers managed to flee the spot, locals said.

They were handed over to police and some money and sharp weapons were seized from their possession, Madhabpur Police Station OC Chandan Kumar Chakrabarty said, adding that there are robbery cases against the arrestees with different police stations.
