Two girls saved from early marriage

Two schoolgirls were saved from early marriage in Sirajganj Sadar upazila on Friday.

Locals said seventh-grader Beauty Khatun, 14, daughter of Nurul Islam of Shaluavita village, was set to be married with Enamul Haque, 22, son of Abdur Razzak of Alokdiar village, on Friday night.

Tipped off, a mobile court led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) Anisur Rahman went to the village and foiled the marriage.

The court also fined the girl's father Nurul and bridegroom Enamul Tk 5,000 each for arranging the marriage.

The court foiled marriage of ninth-grader Bithi Khatun, 15, daughter of Abdur Razzak of Ratankandi village, the same night.

The girl was set to be married with Jahid Hasan, 23, son of Abdul Mannan of Mohishmura village.

The court also realised Tk 20,000 from bride's father Razzak and bridegroom's grandfather Abdul Khaleque, the official said.
