Two cousins drown

Two minor cousins drowned after falling into a a pond while playing beside it in Chirirbandar upazila of the district on Saturday.

The deceased are 18-month-old Aysha Siddiqua, daughter of Abu Bakar Siddique, and 14-month-old Sanjida Akter, daughter of Abu Syeed, residents of Nandedai village in the upazila.

Quoting the victims' family members, Officer in Charge (OC) of Chirirbandar Police Station Harisul Islam said the two kids suddenly slipped into a pond near their house while they were playing on its bank.

Finding them missing around 11:00am, family members and neighbours started a frantic search.

Villagers later recovered the two bodies from the pond around 12:00noon, the OC said, referring to locals.
