Tortured boy hospitalised

The madrasa student was beaten mercilessly over borrowed money

A madrasa boy was beaten mercilessly over borrowed money at Gojkhali village in Barguna's Amtali upazila on Saturday afternoon.

The victim is Jewel, 13, son of Abdul Majid Mia of Bazarkhali village, and a Class VI student of Rahmatpur Dakhil Madrasa. He is now undergoing treatment at the upazila health complex.

The victim's mother Sahida Begum said when Jewel was returning home from the madrasa, a gang of six, led by Rubel, swooped on her son and beat him mercilessly with sticks.

Hearing screams, locals rushed to the spot, rescued Jewel and sent him to the hospital. However, the attackers managed to flee the scene.

“My neighbour Monir borrowed Tk 2000 from me several months ago. On November 20, I sent Jewel to bring the money but Monir became angry at him over the matter,” said the mother, adding, “I want justice for the incident.”

Sahida blamed Monir's cohort Rubel for the attack.

Contacted, Monir refuted the allegation of carrying out the attack.

Milon Mitra, officer-in-charge of Amtali Police Station, said action will be taken against the culprits after a case is filed in this regard.
