Former state minister for primary and mass education Motahar Hossain, MP, protested today in parliament as people in his constituency are suffering heavily due to the low flow of water in the Teesta river.

Teesta has become a source of grief, there is no water in the river, said the Awami League lawmaker from Lalmonirhat-1.

"You can cross the river on foot. The water that comes from India is very little. Cultivation of land cannot be done with that water," he said

He expressed disappointment over the fact that the water sharing treaty is yet to be inked with India.

"People of the region will be benefitted greatly if this agreement is made as soon as possible," he added.

MPS DEMAND REOPENING OF EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS

Two ruling Awami League MPs today demanded to reopen all educational institutions as the closure is hampering students.

"Although virtual classes are taking place, not all students are getting benefit of it. So, the government should take immediate measures to reopen educational institutions as soon as possible," said MP Motahar.

While participating in the thanksgiving motion on the president's speech, Solaiman Haque Joarder, Mp, made the same demand.

The education ministry should take a final decision on reopening educational institutions. The educational institutions should be opened in compliance with health rules, he said.

AL MP Anwarul Abedin Khan expressed his displeasure over the irregularities in constructing roads in the country despite sending huge amount of money.

"It takes Tk 85 lakh to construct a one-kilometre road. Prime Minister is giving money. But the roads become damaged within six months of construction," he added.

Anwarul also said no department of local government, public works and education engineering mentions the use of eco-friendly bricks in the tender. That is why eco-friendly bricks are not being used in construction work of building and other government works.
