Teenager, boyfriend kill selves

A madrasa girl and her boyfriend committed suicide in Sirajganj's Tarash upazila yesterday.

The deceased, Rubina Khatun, 15, daughter of Abdur Rouf of Chak-Joykrishnapur village, and Shaheed Ali, 16, son of Moin Uddin of Raghunili village, were students of Class IX of Chak-Joykrishnapur Dakhil Madrasa.

The duo had an affair, Tarash Police Station officer-in-charge  Md Mostafizur Rahman said, referring to family members.

Rubina took poison on Friday night after she was scolded by her mother over the love affair. She later died at Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medial College Hospital, said the OC.

Hearing the news of her death, Shaheed also took his life by hanging himself from the ceiling of his room around 11:00am yesterday.

The bodies were taken to Sirajganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy, said the police official.
