Teacher sued as raped 5th grader pregnant

A fifth-grader became pregnant due to rape allegedly by a college teacher at Pahar-Ujilabo village under Amlabo union in Narsingdi's Belabo upazila four months ago.

The incident came to light recently as there was change in the girl's appearance, and the victim's mother on Tuesday filed a written complaint with Belabo Police Station accusing Gaziur Rahman Dulal, son of Tara Miah of the same village, and lecturer of Sabuj Pahar Degree College at Kamartek in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi.

Four months ago, Dulal raped her through intimidation when no other family member was at home, said the victim and her family members.

The rapist also threatened the girl that he would burn her to death by setting her house on fire if she disclosed it to anyone.

The panicked girl did not tell about the incident to anyone until recently.

“I filed a written complaint with the police station after knowing the incident lately. I want justice,” the victim's mother said, wailing.

Dulal and his father went into hiding after the incident became public, said neighbours.

The accused could not be contacted for his version as his mobile phone has been switched-off for days.

Contacted, Belabo Police Station Officer-in-Charge Zaved Mahmud said, “We have registered the complaint as a case. The victim was sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for medical test. As there is lack of necessary medical appliances, the hospital authorities referred her to Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital. After getting medical report from there, we will go for next action.”
