Sylhet’s Osmani Int’l Airport getting improvements

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Mahbub Ali today said there will be no compromise to ensure the safety of airports and passengers.

He also said everyone working at the airport should always be ready to prevent and deal with any kind of accident. People who will try to disrupt the security of airports will not be spared.

The junior minister was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the "Full-scale Airport Emergency Exercise-2020" and the expanded section of the international lounge at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet today.

Mahbul Ali said effective steps have been taken at the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to improve the quality of passenger service at the airport and prevent any kind of accidents.

He also said security has been beefed up at all airports in the country.

All modern security equipment including fire alarm systems, dual view scanning machine, ETD, under vehicles scanning system have already been installed at Sylhet Osmani International Airport to ensure security, he also said.

The state minister said major development work is underway at all international and domestic airports of the country under the leadership and supervision of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Expansion of Osmani International Airport has also been started which will be completed at a total cost of Tk 2,760 crore.

After the completion of this work, Osmani International Airport will be a comprehensive modern airport.

Mahbub Ali said the international lounge of the airport has been expanded at a cost of around Tk 8 crore, keeping in mind the needs of the passengers.

From this spacious lounge, passengers will be able to observe take-off and landing of the aircraft directly, which will make the waiting time of the passengers enjoyable.

Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman, Member (Management and Planning) Air Commodore Md. Khalid Hossain, DIG of Sylhet Range Mofiz Uddin Ahmed and President of Sylhet Metropolitan Awami League Masuk Uddin Ahmed, among others, also spoke at the programme.
