Swechchasebak League leader murder: Gouripur mayor suspended from AL post

Mymensingh's Gouripur municipality mayor and local Awami League president Syed Rafiqul Islam has been suspended from his party post in connection with the murder of Swechchasebak League leader Masudur Rahman Shuvra.

Gouripur upazila unit Awami League, in an emergency meeting this evening, suspended Gouripur municipal unit AL president Rafiqul from the party for his alleged involvement in the Shuvra murder, said a press release signed by the upazila unit AL president and secretary. 

Rafiqul is one of the 14 accused in a case filed over the murder of Shuvra, 28, secretary of Gouripur unit Swechchasebak League.

Unidentified assailants hacked Shuvra to death in Pan Mahal area in the upazila on Saturday night.

In the meeting, the AL leaders also demanded immediate punishment to the killers of Shuvra, Shafiqul Islam Minto, office secretary of the upazila unit AL, told our Mymensingh correspondent.
