The Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations began today across the country, with separate reported incidents of providing wrong question papers to examinees in three districts.

In Barishal, 17 regular candidates were provided Bangla first paper questions on the 2018 syllabus.

The incident happened at Halima Khatun Girls’ High School centre, reports our Barishal correspondent.

At the centre, more than half the candidates were expected to appear for the examination with question papers on 2020-2025 syllabus. However, 17 regular examinees had to answer questions on the 2018 syllabus, said Md Shah Alam, head teacher of Jagadish Saraswat Secondary Girls’ School.

The matter was later reported to the board authorities but it was too late by then and performance of the candidates was affected as they could not answer all questions, he added.

After visiting the centre, Barishal Education Board Chairman Mohammad Yunus said the matter will be considered so that the examinees do not suffer.

“We have kept record of the 17 examinees’ admit cards and will consider the matter favouring the students so that they are not affected,” he said.

“An inquiry committee would be formed soon in this regard,” he added.

Barishal Education Board has decided to issue “show cause” notice to the persons associated with the examination centre over providing wrong question papers, board sources said.

In Nilphamari, a similar incident took place at Rabeya Balika Bidyaniketan examination centre where 98 examinees from two schools were provided question papers on the old 2018 syllabus, reports our local correspondent.

The incident took place at the centre’s room number 5 and 8 where candidates from Collectorate School and College and Nagardarwani School and College respectively were appearing for Bangla First Paper examination today.

After answering the questions for around an hour, the examinees brought the matter to the notice of the invigilators. Later, Mahafizur Rahman, exam centre secretary and principal of the school, informed the authorities concerned.

On information, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-General) Azharul Islam visited the centre and spoke to Dinajpur Education Board Examination Controller Tofazzur Hossain.

The examination controller directed the invigilators to provide the examinees with the correct question papers and also an hour extra time to complete their answer.

Talking to The Daily Star, Mahafizur Rahman said there are 620 examinees appearing for SSC exams at the centre. Among them, 619 are regular candidates while one is appearing on 2018 syllabus.

“As per the rules, we were provided seven bundles of 100 question papers each for the 619 regular candidates and one bundle of 100 questions for the one candidate appearing on old syllabus,” he said.

“By mistake, the questions from that one bundle of old syllabus question were given to the regular candidates,” he added.

In Chowgaccha of Jashore, five teachers of an examination centre’s committee including the centre secretary were relieved of duty over negligence in a similar incident of providing the examinees with wrong question papers.

The incident took place at Chowgaccha Govt Shahadat Pilot Secondary School centre where 19 regular examinees were provided question papers on 2018 syllabus while two casual candidates were provided with regular question papers, reports our Jhenaidah correspondent.

The teachers relieved of their duties were: Azizur Rahman, exam centre secretary and principal of the school, and four other teachers of the school -- Abdul Jalil, Salma Khatun, Lucky Akter, and Rabiul Islam.

Talking to The Daily Star, Azizur Rahman said it was an unintentional mistake during the MCQ test.

“We informed the Jashore Education Board examination controller, Chowgaccha UNO and the exam centre’s official-in-charge about the matter and provided the candidates with proper question for the written test,” he said.

“The exam controller has assured that it will not affect the results of the examinees,” the principal also said.

“Five of us of the exam centre’s committee, including myself, have been relieved from duty over the incident. Upazila BRDB official Anisur Rahman has been assigned as the centre secretary,” Azizur Rahman added.

Chowgaccha UNO Zahidul Islam confirmed the incident to The Daily Star.
