Son’s brutal beating sends elderly to hospital

An elderly has been hospitalised after her son beat her up mercilessly in Thakurgaon Sadar.

The victim is Rahima Begum, 70, wife of Pabir Uddin, a local, our local correspondent reports. She is now attending treatment at Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital.

The offender has been identified as Mazibar Rahman, 52, who took two of his sons Sadek Ali, 30, and Rashid, 28, and beat up his own brother and his sister in-law who tried to defend the elderly.

"Mazibar’s wife Nasrin started hurling abusive wards at me on Thursday morning around 9:00am. It led to an altercation," Rahima Begum told The Daily Star today.

"At one stage, Mazibar started beating me with a bamboo stick," she added. 

"As my younger son Khairul Islam and his wife Rebeka Parvin came to rescue me, Mazibar and his two sons also beat them up mercilessly," she said.

Later the villagers took the trio to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital where they were undergoing treatment, last reported.

Jinnat Parvin, medical officer of the hospital, said several injury marks were found on the elderly woman and the other two victims.

Ashiqur Rahman, officer in charge of Thakurgaon Police Station, said a formal complaint is yet to be filed in this regard. “We will take steps without delay if a complaint is filed.”
