Concealing seized Phensedyl in Bogura: Senior ASP transferred, 2 police officers withdrawn

A senior assistant superintendent of police was transferred while an inspector and sub-inspector were withdrawn yesterday over allegations of concealing 88 bottles of phensedyl seized during a drive on April 3.

Senior ASP Ariful Islam Siddiqi (Shibganj circle) was transferred and attached to the Barishal Range office.

Inspector (investigation) Shahinuzzaman and sub-inspector Sujauddoula of Mokamtola investigation centre under Shibganj Police Station in Bogura were withdrawn and attached to Bogura police lines.

Ali Asraf Bhuiyan, superintendent of police of Bogura district confirmed the development to The Daily Star over phone.

Our Bogura correspondent reports quoting police officials that on the night of April 3, a team of Mokamtola investigation centre set up a checkpost on the Bogura-Rangpur highway in Mokamtola.

They searched various vehicles and seized 248 bottles of phensedyl from two buses and arrested two drug dealers, Nazim and Saiful Islam, police officials said, wishing to remain anonymous.

Senior ASP Ariful led the drive, they added.

The following day, SI Sujauddoula filed two separate cases against Nazim and Saiful showing that police seized 110 bottles of phensedyl from the latter.

Other police members involved in the drive said they had seized 50 bottles from Nazim and 198 from Saiful, meaning that 88 bottles were unaccounted for in the case filed by Sujauddoula.

On Tuesday, police formed a three-member probe body led by an additional superintendent of police to investigate the case.

SP Bhuiyan said once the investigation is done, they will take action as per the report of the investigation.

Contacted, ASP Ariful Islam Siddiqi claimed he was framed.
