Schoolgirl commits suicide after being ‘raped’

A sixth grader allegedly committed suicide after she was reportedly raped by one of her neighbors in Sadar upazila of Panchagarh early today.

The victim was identified as Morium Khatun,13, a student of Vatapukuri Girls’ High School of Mollapara in the upazila, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.

Police arrested the alleged rapist Palash, 20, a construction worker by profession, after the victim’s mother filed a case against him today.

According to the case statement, the girl used to live in a thatched house with her mother and her father died earlier. Palash used to stalk the girl for long.

Palash entered their house around 4:30am today and raped Morium, the statement said.

The victim’s mother tried to catch Palash but he managed to flee the scene, added the case statement.

Few moment later, the mother found the body of the schoolgirl hanging from a tree adjacent to the house.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it Panchagarh Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

Contacted, Manjurul Islam, sub-inspector of Panchagarh Sadar Police Station, said, they are investigating into the incident.
