A schoolgirl was indiscriminately hacked by a stalker for refusing his “love proposal” in Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar today.

Jewel Ahmed, 19, son of Bokul Mia in Sadipur village of the upazila, hacked the eighth-grader girl Ghater Bazar area around 3:00pm when she was returning home from school, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports quoting police.

Critically injured, the victim was rushed to Kulaura Upazila Health Complex. Later, she was shifted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, locals caught Jewel from the spot and handed him over to police.

The girl is in a very critical condition, said Dr Zakir Hosain, residential medical officer of the upazila health complex. “She got injured in her right ear and back side of her head,” he added.

“Jewel had been stalking her for a long time. He proposed her with offer of love affair at different times, but she always refused him and informed us about this,” said the victim’s mother.

“She used to study at the nearest local high school, but due to stalking by Jewel, we had to admit her to another school. At that time, a general diary (GD) was also filed with the police station,” the mother added.

In the primary interrogation, Jewel confessed to have hacked the girl after she turned down his love proposal, said Eardous Hasan, officer-in-charge of Kulaura Police Station.

“We have recovered a sharp weapon. After receiving complaint from the victim’s family, a case will be filed in this connection,” the OC added.
